-Day One-
Monday, 5th January
“..It’s the first day of school. We’re a new gang. New and improved. Demoralized. Retardified. Awesomised. And our epicness will be so epic.... on the first day of school.”
-Izaq
Poor fella got busted for long hair and was sent to the barber across the road. So much for “epicness” eh, Izaq? Sad.
The first day, I wasn’t really bothered to write about, which, I suppose, I’m going to have to write about now. Not that there isn’t anything to talk about really. Yup, nothing to talk about. Could’ve gone better, actually. It’s really too bad Aikks isn’t in my class any longer. Grr.
And also there’s this certain frustratingly annoying someone who, for goodness sake, is in my class. Again. Has been for the past three years! It’s like the school’s personal joke on me. Another of year of having to put up with you? Why didn’t they just put [insert name here] in 10B?! Why my class, why?! Pourquoi?!
Might as well accept it. Sigh. So much for the first day of school.
-Day Two-
Tuesday, 6th January
Now the second day was slightly better than the first. Our class teacher’s six months pregnant and thinks she can get away with absolutely anything without getting sacked all because she’s bloated up like a balloon on the 4th of July. But I do like her, she was our English teacher last year. Anyway, T. Biology took over the first five periods before break and all we had, basically, was free period, which I spent at the back row with Izaq and Shakiren. Those two are unbelievably insane… well, Izaq more actually but Shakiren goes along with it.
Izaq: Study!
Shakiren: I am!
Izaq: Fine, you ham!
Chels: Ham?
Izaq: Yeah! I said, “Study” and he said, “I ham!” so ham!
Chels: =.=
Izaq: YOU HAM!
Chels: You do know you’re indirectly calling him a pig right?
And the rest of free period was spent in almost the same manner, him calling everyone else within close proximity a ham. Yeah, tell me about it. He was also leafing through the Biology textbook and commented on everything that looked anything your spleen and inconspicuously looking for the anatomy of the [insert something lewd here]. It’s safe enough to say the Science stream isn’t for Izaq; he’s way too immature for it. Haha, Izaq.
Break came and went and was spent just like any other break time before. I heard there was a new student in Aikks’ class. Another JIS kickout, apparently. I’m starting to wonder why those kickouts show up at our school, and why they would ever dream of getting kicked out of JIS. It’s frigging like, the best school here! I heard he’s an Australian dude with a kickass accent which I have yet to hear. Everyone’s smothering him already.
After break was Chemistry and we were given a quiz on the first 20 elements of the Periodic Table. Not bad really, I scored 20/20 and so did the rest of the class. Oh, did I mention almost every kid in my class is intensely smart? That’s all very well, but they’re also very, very talkative, so talkative in fact, that I can’t even be talkative any more, I’d just be drowned out by all the shouting. Shame, that.
And we were given a Chemistry project, it’s simple really, we just have to create this massive Periodic Table and each kid has to choose, at the least, 3 elements. Of course, I took the one the coolest sounding ones. Hahaha. Neodymium, Mendelevium and… Californium. Pretty cool, eh?
After Chemistry (no lab work yet), we had BM. Unbelievably dreary, I tell you. I suppose yesterday’s 7th & 8th period was the most challenging one hour of all time. I had to force myself to keep awake and conscious as my eyes kept closing shut every 3 seconds.
Why? The BM teacher kept going on and on and on about the ‘O’ Levels in Malay. Couldn’t understand a bit of it. And the worst part was that she didn’t stop until dismissal. Honestly. She dissected every little bit of the BM ‘O’ Level paper and explained in a monotonous tone meticulously every single minute detail about it. Not that that would ever help me, I’m certainly not taking BM for my ‘O’ Levels, no sir.
And she went on droning like that for an hour, and you have no idea how incredibly relieved I was when the bell rang. Honestly, it’s not easy trying to keep awake during BM. And that’s when I learned the first lesson of the year: If BM is on your schedule tomorrow morning; get a decent night’s sleep if you don’t want to find yourself in the principal’s room for snoring while the teacher was explaining poetry in Malay.
-Day Three-
Wednesday, 7th January
Today’s so far the best of all three yet. We had Math first thing and covered functions and something about relationships (both mathematical and social alike), I think. And after, we had Physics, in which, I repeated the last bit of yesterday’s class. I struggled to keep awake again while T. Physics explained measurements and meniscuses and micrometer gauges. Thank God, after running out of things to say, she gave us a free 20-minute period of which fifteen I attempted to regain lost sleep. ‘Attempted’ because I failed. It’s not very easy to completely shut down your conscious mind when the people sitting next to you are talking about Chinese New Year in very loud voices.
We had English after, and then break. English again after break, and T. English already slumped two essays on our backs due Saturday. Actually, we need only one essay to pass on Saturday morning but I’m not close to finishing the first one yet and had to ask for a longer time. I know. I like to write, I love to write, but hey, you have to think of what to write too you know. And they gave me a topic I’m not very keen on finishing in just half an hour: My Life and My Dreams. Sure I can write that, but you’ll have to give me more time if you want it to be decent enough to suit to your liking.
And after English, we had 3 periods of Biology, which was really, really fun. Biology could well be my favorite subject this year. Although, what we discussed today was a little nasty, we were studying cells and one thing lead to another and we ended up talking about HIV and cancer. I also found out where the HIV virus originated and why we are cursed to be subjected to this disease if we’re not careful enough. It’s rather horrible and trust me, you do not want to know where it came from.
Also, nowadays HIV isn’t really an STD anymore, since it can not only be passed on sexually, but also through blood transfusions and stuff. *shudder* The world is a cruel, cruel place. Horrible topics really, but you do learn at least something and Biology really is quite awesome.
What really annoys me a lot is when teachers say that this year is gonna be hell. Oh, please, they said Year 9 was gonna be hell since we had PMB. Well, if this is hell then no wonder nobody’s trying at all to be good i.e. nobody’s trying hard enough to get straight A’s (don’t look at me, I’m in academic purgatory... not). But hey, I’m not complaining, but please, for our sake, find another catchphrase to scare us into actually studying our stuff.
So in all sense, school’s awesome. Not bad at all. Not bad at all. I’ve got to get started on that essay though, so bug me later.
